Orchard Road Food: No.5 Emerald Hill Cocktail Bar
Martini Mischief & Midnight Bites at Emerald Hill
Orchard Road is very good at shopping.
It is also very good at making you need a drink after shopping.
And tucked just a few steps away from all the malls is No.5 Emerald Hill - one of those bars that feels like it has somehow escaped the glass-and-steel world outside.
Located at 5 Emerald Hill Road, Singapore 229289, this long-running cocktail bar occupies a characterful Peranakan-style shophouse just off Orchard Road. Current business data shows an impressive 4.3/5 from more than 1,500 Google reviews, while recent reviews continue to praise its cosy interiors, cocktails and lively late-night atmosphere.
The bar currently opens 12pm to 2am Sunday through Thursday, staying open until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays.
Basically, your "one quick drink" has plenty of time to become four.
🍸 The Drinks Are Definitely the Main Event

| Martinis, pizza and a table full of temptation - exactly the kind of night No.5 Emerald Hill does best. 🍸🍕 |
No.5 Emerald Hill has been associated with cocktails and martinis for years, and that is still where most of the excitement sits.
Its signature drinks include the famous Chilli Vodka and No.5 Cocktail, while current and recent reviews repeatedly mention flavoured martinis, jelly cocktails and playful combinations such as KI NO TEA.
The bar is also known for drink promotions.
TheSmartLocal's 2026 guide highlights 1-for-1 martinis, including fruit-forward soju martinis such as yuzu and peach, while other listings mention deals where selected cocktails are served in pairs.
That sounds fantastic until two people want completely different drinks.
Then negotiations begin.
For current promotions and reservations, it is worth checking the No.5 Emerald Hill official website before visiting, since drink deals can change.
🌶️ Feeling Brave? Meet the Chilli Vodka
And then there is the drink that has developed something of a reputation.
Chilli Vodka.
No.5's chilli-infused vodka has long been one of its signatures, with vodka infused with chillies before being served either straight or incorporated into cocktails. Older bar documentation describes the infusion as sitting for an extended period to develop its fiery kick.
Recent reviewers are still mentioning it.
One October 2025 Google reviewer praised the bartending and suggested adventurous visitors try the chilli vodka - although perhaps not as their opening drink of the night.
We will translate that into Orchard Foodies language:
Proceed with confidence. And possibly water.
If you prefer your Orchard drinks served with considerably more Parisian restraint, our French Fold Orchard French Fold Orchard review takes things in a completely different wine-and-crêpes direction.
🍗 Chicken Wings: The Unofficial Second Headliner
![]() |
| Crispy, juicy and made for sharing - the chicken wings are one of No.5 Emerald Hill’s most popular bar snacks. 🍗 |
The cocktails get people through the door.
The chicken wings seem determined to stop them from leaving hungry.
No.5's shrimp-paste-marinated wings repeatedly appear among its most recommended bar snacks. A recent November 2025 Google reviewer described them as crispy outside and juicy inside, with a flavour reminiscent of har cheong gai, and ended up ordering two trays.
A current Singapore happy-hour guide makes the same recommendation, singling out the shrimp-paste chicken wings as one of the bar's signature food choices.
Other menu staples traditionally include pizzas and bar snacks, while recent reviewers have also highlighted sotong balls.
Is this where we would come for an elaborate three-course dinner?
Probably not.
Would we demolish wings, order another cocktail and suddenly forget dinner was supposed to happen elsewhere?
Very possible.
🥜 Yes, Those Peanut Shells Really Go on the Floor
One of No.5's quirkiest traditions involves peanuts.
Order them, crack them open and - yes - throwing the shells onto the floor is part of the experience.
Recent 2026 feedback still mentions the peanut-shell ritual, although understandably not everybody feels comfortable joining in.
It adds to the bar's deliberately relaxed, slightly messy personality.
No.5 is not trying to feel like a pristine hotel cocktail lounge.
It is darker, louder and far more playful.
🏮 The Real Star Might Actually Be the Building
![]() |
| Place this under “🏮 The Real Star Might Actually Be the Building”, before the paragraph discussing the historic shophouse setting. |
Step away from Orchard Road and the setting changes remarkably quickly.
Emerald Hill is known for its historic shophouses, and No.5 leans heavily into that character with warm wood, Straits-Chinese influences, dim lighting and an intimate two-storey layout.
A February 2026 Google reviewer praised its warm Chinese-style interior and cosy atmosphere, while another recent visitor said the space remained surprisingly busy even on a Thursday evening.
Recent reviewers also compliment the music and DJ atmosphere, describing a place lively enough for a night out without completely killing conversation.

👀 What Recent Reviews Really Say
The newest reviews are mostly encouraging.
Current Google-linked data is around 4.3/5 from more than 1,500 ratings, considerably stronger than Tripadvisor's 3.4/5 from 143 reviews.
Recent positives include:
- creative cocktails and martinis;
- especially popular jelly-style drinks;
- crispy chicken wings;
- cosy, character-filled surroundings;
- friendly and attentive bartenders;
- lively music and late-night atmosphere.
But there are caveats.
A long-time visitor in October 2025 felt cocktail prices had risen while the drinks themselves seemed weaker. Another recent reviewer loved the atmosphere but thought the food was fairly lacklustre. Tripadvisor contains sharper criticism, including complaints about food and service during some 2025 visits.
That tells us exactly how to approach No.5:
Come primarily for drinks, atmosphere and bar bites rather than expecting a destination dinner.
For another late-night Orchard option, our Cafe de Muse Orchard Cafe de Muse Orchard review is handy when the evening somehow reaches the "coffee and bingsu at midnight" stage.
⭐ Orchard Foodies Take
No.5 Emerald Hill has something many newer bars spend a fortune trying to manufacture:
personality.
The Peranakan shophouse setting immediately gives it character. The martinis keep things playful. Chilli vodka provides the questionable decision-making opportunity. And those chicken wings are exactly the sort of salty, crispy snack you want after drink number two.
Not every recent review loves the food or service, and value becomes more debatable once the cocktails start multiplying.
But as an Orchard Road Food and drinks stop, No.5 still offers something distinct from the polished restaurants and mall bars surrounding it.
Come for after-work drinks.
Come for date-night cocktails.
Come after shopping when your feet hurt and responsible spending has already left the building.
Just maybe don't volunteer for the chilli vodka first.
